E Gedichtband op Englesch, vum Gewënner vum Prix Laurence 2022
Ognyan "Flame" Darinov (24) is originally from Sofia, Bulgaria. He has lived in Luxembourg since 2017. After writing poetry for nearly a decade, he won the Prix Laurence in 2022. As of this publication, he is doing a PhD at the University of Luxembourg.
"Flame combines languages and cultures in a way which is probably usual only in Luxembourg. The reader is perhaps not expected to understand everything. Indeed, the poet would rather have us not understand everything, although some of us eventually will.
Flame Darinov's poetry is both melodious and meaningful, although it may not be reduced to an unequivocal takeaway...his multilingual work renders him more lively and enthusiastic when he reads it aloud."
(Pressetext vun d'Bréck)
Flame proves that pasts loom, spectre-like; voices of thoughts once thought linger around us. In carefully placed trees, in city names or villages unnamed, in the mixing of languages, in weird and compound words, in time and space, in narrative and imagery...
This collection is in a sense a leaf plucked from the crown, slowly swaying its way down, past branches and leaves to mature, until it hits the ground. Here it wilts, gets dragged by unknown breezes, or eaten by hungry ants, torn apart but yet part of what the world offers.
