De Quartier, dee sech an de leschte Jore lues a lues an e Banken- a Business-Véierel verwandelt, mat enger méi moderner Neier Avenue, déi mam Tram als Modell gëllt, fir den ëffentlechen Transport, huet eng aner, eng däischter Säit.
Temoignage vun engem Garer AwunnerAs proud resident in the Gare area for almost 15 years I have seen our neighborhood turn from one of the nicest areas for strolling and window shopping in the evening to the absolute dump and drug area of Luxembourg city.
When friends come to visit we can no longer show them this once so beautiful central area.
How blind is our police? Are our politicians too smart to walk across the Viaduc bridge and see the shame on Avenue de la Gare? Where is the public money for safety and security of Luxembourg’s citizens?
Every evening from as early as 18.00 there are drug dealers standing from the corner of Rue Fort Neipperg and Avenue De la Gare up to Blv.d’Avranches. That they are drug dealers is no way a guess because we get approached and they ask what drugs we want to buy from them.
Frequently we witness how these dealers actively engage with youngsters and bother other locals and tourists, and believe me they can be very persistent. These people are also there in broad daylight and that makes everyone uncomfortable, pedestrians, tourists and shop owners (as I am sure it is negative for all the shops as it seems they change on a monthly basis).
This is in no way any good marketing for our city: when I moved here from another country due to safety reasons and concerns for my family, at the time Luxemburg city
was one of the 10 safest cities in the world. Today it seems like I am right back to where I started.
Now I worry every time my children have to walk back home from school or sports activities, and that’s s not happening at midnight.
Taking the bus to Place de Paris or Gare exposes them to all these dangers from drug dealers, drug addicts and homeless people. I have also been attacked physically in broad daylight in ave de la Gare.
There is almost never police visible or present in our area, it seems that politicians and police know about it but everyone is ignoring it or just turning a blind eye.
Most people are also too scared to talk about it, as they fear for their safety and that of their families. That’s why I write this anonymous letter rather than speaking up in front of cameras, I am simply afraid. But perhaps, Monique, you find the time to walk together with me in my neighborhood one evening and I will gladly show you the reality on our streets and tell you “live” about it.
It is an absolute shame that we have to pay exorbitant property prices but are scared to use our own street facilities and restaurants and bars in the evening. I am a very proud citizen and love this city, I want my neighborhood safe again. Therefore I would like to invite all our politicians and Mme Polfer to come for a walk down Av de la Gare any time in the evening and see how they like it. Maybe then something will happen.
